Mansoor Shams is a former U.S. Marine, who served from 2000 to 2004. Now, he’s on a mission to educate people about Islam, traveling around the country with a sign that reads, “I’m a Muslim and a U.S. Marine, Ask Me Anything.” According to Shams, his work is not always easy, but he believes one-on-one dialogue with other Americans about his faith is crucial to combating anti-Muslim prejudice, saying, “I sincerely believe that if I influence one person’s life that I’ve made a difference… We all have a circle of people that we interact with everyday and if I can influence one person, there’s a trickle effect. They just might change someone else as well.”
