Between the kettle corn and funnel cake, the “Know Islam” booth at a New Mexico farmers’ market aims to educate, inform, and build interfaith bridges. The booth’s organizers provide Qurans and answer questions from the community, believing this endeavor is important for breaking down stereotypes and misunderstandings. According to one organizer, “the goal is showing the community that Islam is not what the news portrays,” and that Muslims and non-Muslims have a lot in common.
