A new study called “Muslims for American Progress Project” seeks to broaden public perception of American Muslims and break down stereotypes. The study, conducted by Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, reports on the positive contributions Muslim Americans make to American society, focusing on eight key areas: medicine; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); civics and democracy; philanthropy and nonprofit; education; economics; arts and entertainment; and sports. The hope, a representative for the project said, is that the survey will shed “light and perspective on a segment of Americans who continue to be misunderstood and too often unfairly criticized because of their religion, without fully considering their dedication to their fellow Americans.”
